Early predictors of short duration of exclusive breastfeeding among Havana women

ProblemIn Cuba, only 40.9% of infants under the age six months are exclusively breastfed with average duration exclusivity being 2.4 months. Evidence to guide development breastfeeding interventions among Cuban women achieve exclusive is limited. The objective was identify early predictors for discontinuation before women.MethodsIn a cohort study, 273 maternal-infant pairs were recruited immediately following childbirth at public hospital in Havana, Cuba and followed up postpartum. A univariate multivariate strategy used months.ResultsWhile all discharge, 20.5% continued 3.13 (SD ± 2.14 months). Factors associated were: (1) not initiated within first hour birth, (2) infant birthweight <3.3 kgs, (3) pacifier use, (4) maternal dissatisfaction growth, (5) mental health problems one month (6) low self-efficacy birth month.
